Elon Musk`s vision for X is to rival YouTube, and he`s taking significant steps towards that goal. Musk has personally encouraged MrBeast, YouTube`s top creator, to share full videos on X. Earlier this year, X CEO Linda Yaccarino highlighted the platform`s shift towards becoming a "video-first" service.
In line with this strategy, X has introduced a dedicated smart TV app designed exclusively for viewing content on the platform, reports Mashable.
On Monday night, Musk announced the "Beta version of X TV" on X, it said.
X TV: Musk`s Vision for Video
The X TV app is now available for download on smart TVs through Google Play, Amazon’s app store, and LG’s app store. However, it has not yet been released on Apple TV or the Apple App Store for tvOS.
The app allows users to browse and view videos uploaded to X, including live streams, directly on their TVs. To use X TV, users need to sign in with their X account, the report said.
Previously, watching X content on a television required casting from a secondary device like an iPhone or Android smartphone.
Musk’s ambitions for X are broad, extending beyond social media to encompass financial services, aiming to transform the platform into an "everything" app. While X users already post videos, the challenge will be to see if X TV shifts the way users engage with video content on the platform or simply reinforces existing habits, added the report.
